Why does my AC blow out hot air?

Friday, August 7th, 2015

Well, it’s that time of the year again. It’s just so stinkin’ hot outside! Have you ever thought your air conditioner was broken because it wouldn’t blow out cold air fast enough? We’ve all been there. The funny thing is that your A/C is most likely not broken, it’s just working a little harder than usual in the hotter months. Here are some key points to think about when understand how air conditioning works:

  • “Conditioned” air is the air that has had the heat removed. It is the heat that is transferred (removed from vehicle) leaving you with cooler air.
  • Moisture “stores” heat so the higher the humidity in Nashville, the more difficult it is to remove the heat.
  • Keep in mind that the “evaporator” that removes the heat is a relatively small cube that fits under the dash in the vehicle. That evaporator attempts to remove the heat as the air passes through, using a section that is only about 7 x 3 inches thick.
