Commonly Misspelled Words

Monday, March 11th, 2019

This week when you hear our favorite radio voice, Mike Abbondanza, be listening for some references to misspelled words. Here it is for you non-radio-listening, Spotify-streaming types:

“That’s just wrong! Wrong with a captital-R… or is it a W?”

It got us thinking… what are other commonly misspelled words? Here are 10 of our favorite examples:

  1. Recieve — remember that it’s “i before e except after c.” Correct spelling: Receive.
  2. Definately — also sometimes “defiantly,” which is just too harsh. correct spelling: definitely.
  3. Wendesday — anyone else say “wed – nes – day” in their head? Just me? Correct spelling: Wednesday.
  4. Sandwhich — the extra “h” is not actually necessary. Correct spelling: sandwich.
  5. Seperate — easily corrected by another in-your-head pronunciation: “sep-AH-rate.” Correct spelling: separate.
  6. They’re, there, & their — easily the easiest words to misuse. “They’re” = “they are;” “There” is for places; “their” is a possessive pronoun.
  7. Principal or principle? — remember that your principal at school is your “pal”; your principles are your values or standards.
  8. Tommorow — this one is especially fun to misspell while writing in cursive. Correct spelling: tomorrow.
  9. Goverment — you actually have to “govern” to have a government. So don’t forget the “n” in there!
  10. Beutiful — here’s a fun video to help you remember this one, beautiful:

What words do you find yourself misspelling (or Googling to get right)?

That’s a Wrap! Trunk or Treat 2017

Trunk or Treat

We love Trunk or Treat!

Trunk or Treat is easily our favorite day of the year, because we here at Newton Nissan love getting to see our community. It’s also an important day for us, because it is a day that we promote the community we are in. This year, the Gallatin High School Band helped us decorate 40 trunks that we filled with enough candy for all the afternoon’s visitors! In return, we donated funds that will help them continue to develop their program!Trunk or Treat

Battling the freezing temperatures, the band’s trunks showed up early and began decorating their cars, trucks, and SUVs into spooky entrances, fun characters, and pop culture references, such as Jurassic Park and Star Trek. We brought in fun bouncy houses and euro bungees for the kids to enjoy for a few hours! The cold weather would not keep us from having fun with our community.

So, why do we do this?

Because we here at Newton Nissan believe that our community is more valuable than our bottom line. And to show this, we simply want to be a part of our customer’s lives. Trunk or Treat is one of those days when that becomes a reality, a day that allows us to host a fun event, get to know our community, and to give back. Ultimately, we hope that this community relationship extends from fun events into the daily interactions we have with every person that walks through our doors!

Trunk or Treat

Thank you for being a part of our community!

We hope to see you next year at Trunk or Treat 2018!

This Week’s Used Cars Under $10K

Wednesday, June 28th, 2017

Cars under $10,000 are highly sought after for a number of reasons.  You may be shopping for a back-to-school vehicle, an inexpensive vehicle to commute to work, or a handy second car. Regardless of the reason, finding the best used cars under $10,000 can be more of a challenge than you may realize.

Traditionally, new car franchise dealers send older trades to auction; but due to high demand, our team has decided to make select vehicles available to the public before they are offered to auction.

This week, we have a great selection of vehicles for under $10k. Whether you’re looking for a truck to haul, a nice sedan, or a cheap SUV; we’ve got you covered.

Following are a few examples:

Gallatin Student Wins Free Car for Good Grades

Monday, June 26th, 2017

Ke’Shauntez Debow, a sophomore at Gallatin High School, won a brand new car tonight because of good grades. “I’m so surprised,” says Ke’Shauntez, “I never win anything… not even bingo in class!”.

The annual contest, hosted by Newton Motor Group’s two Nissan dealerships, is open to all students enrolled in a middle Tennessee high school. Since the program started in 2009, Newton Nissan has given away eight cars to students in the Nashville area.

The grand prize at each location was a 2017 Nissan Versa, valued at $15,370. “Newton Nissan pays for both the car and sales taxes, so the winning students don’t have to pay anything for their new cars,” says Mike Abbondanza, Newton Motor Group’s Vice President. Students enter the contest by bringing in their report card from the most recent school year. Students increase their chances of winning by making good grades, since they receive one entry per “A” on their report card.

Nashville’s very own News Channel 5’s Senior Meteorologist Lelan Statom helped to host the event, which also featured trivia for prizes before the giveaway. Statom captured the big moment for social media to see. Ke’Shauntez couldn’t hold back the shock and surprise of a brand new car!

Hendersonville High School Honors Alumni

Hendersonville High School  Honors Alumni

HNewton Nissan has had the pleasure of visiting Hendersonville High School a number of times. In fact, Luke Jacobs, a new graduate of HHS, won Newton Nissan’s Car Giveaway in 2015. We were so happy to hear about the discovery of pieces of the school’s history here recently.

In July of last year, The Hendersonville Star News  ran a story about finding Hendersonville High School’s first class photo. Since then, Bob Cotter, the school’s current principal, has wanted to hang class photos in the halls of the school. The Sumner County Schools’ archivist, Kay Durham Hurt, initially thought the photos had been lost. However, Hurt’s Class of 1957 photo, along with 19 others from the graduating classes of 1942-1960, were found and hung in the school’s main hallway this summer. On Friday, July 29, 2016, many of the alumni who helped restore the photos, met to tour the school and view the photos. Cotter said the photos provide a valuable teaching tool. “Already we’ve had one student ask why there were so few boys in some of the 1940’s classes,” he said. “Someone reminded him about World War II.”

Hendersonville High School has a rich history dating back to 1942 when the school first opened its doors. “The history of the school ties right along with the history of the U.S. and what was going on in the community at the time,” Cotter added. “What I really hope is that students see the historical perspective of Hendersonville… That we’re not a school that started 24 or 25 years ago in this building. That we have a rich history that goes back to 1942 when Hendersonville was a community high school.”

Ever since the Vanderbilt Football program provided the first Commando football team with older, used jerseys in 1941, HHS’s school colors have been Black and Gold. The school’s students are known as the Commandos because 54 men were sent to fight in World War II. When they came back as veteran commandos, the name stuck with the school and it became the official mascot.

We hope that the good feelings continue to fill the halls of Hendersonville High School, and we appreciate the opportunities we have had to be a part of the school and its history. Go Commandos!
