The name Nissan traces its roots all the way back to 1928, though its original name was Datsun. Its founder, Yoshisuke Aikawa, became president of a company called Nihon Sangyo, which went by the ticker name NISSAN on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Though the company started dealing mostly in auto parts and foundries, Aikawa wanted to expand into making automobiles, and so Nissan began making its very popular Datsun cars. These would be the first-ever mass-produced vehicles in Japan, launching in 1937. Their distinct style would very much go on to influence American vehicles, in part because Nissan eventually brought them to the U.S.
Eventually, Datsun showcased in Los Angeles and made a name for itself in America. From there, Nissan expanded production to Mexico, Australia, Taiwan, and even Brazil. But it wouldn’t be until 1983 when they finally opened their first American factory in Tennessee, planting their flag on our soil.
The Datsun brand boasted many popular cars that are still considered iconic today, like the FairLady 1200 Roadster with its classic convertible top, rounded lines, and two-tone paint job, and the Datsun 320 – the brand’s popular pickup truck. It wasn’t uncommon to see these at a drive-in movie or car show in the 1950s and 1960s. It became clear from these two vehicles that the traditional American style of cars was influencing the Datsun brand. By 1975, Nissan became the top importer in the U.S. Immersing itself more within U.S. soil, Nissan eventually opened Nissan Design America (NDA) in California. Not long after that, we started to see some of the cars the company still makes today, including the Maxima and the Altima.
Nissan has always been a trailblazer. They started using assembly robots as early as 1982 and quickly had these throughout their factories. They have even been producing electric vehicles on and off since 1946, proving that these cars are no new trend. In fact, for many years, Nissan was the largest producer of electric vehicles. Nissan has a history of being ahead of the trend, and we don’t see that stopping any time soon.
Nissan has taken the year 2022 by storm, pulling out all the stops with new and improved features on some of their favorite models. As a part of their rebranding and moving towards a more electrified identity, Nissan is putting out its long-anticipated ARIYA. Some preliminary information was already released about it in 2021, but we’ve since learned that the ARIYA will boast a maximum 300-mile range, which is pretty impressive for a modern EV. As for their EV Nissan LEAF, Nissan will actually be lowering the MSRP on the 2022 variety to make electric cars more accessible to all.
It’s clear that safety continues to be a top priority for Nissan, as you see more and more advanced driver assist features on many of their popular vehicles. For example, the 2022 Kicks and the 2022 Rogue Sport will boast a 360-degree monitor to give drivers a comprehensive look at what’s happening around their vehicle. This is just part of a comprehensive suite of safety features to expect on many 2022 vehicles.
Nissan is establishing itself in the luxury truck market more, too, which can be seen with the upgrades to the Titan and Titan XD. These include things like heated seats and access to Nissan Concierge, the brand’s 24/7 assistant. Across many of its traditionally rugged vehicles, drivers can find these new touches in 2022 that bring comfort to utility vehicles.
When it comes to performance vehicles, Nissan knows drivers expect a lot and have upped the ante there, too. Take the 2022 Pathfinder, for example, which boasts a new 9-speed transmission for smoother adjustments, or the 2022 Rogue, which boasts a new engine offering excellent acceleration. These cars will be even more suited for fun and adventure in 2022.
2021 is an exciting year for the Nissan brand. As part of the company’s global Nissan NEXT promise to deliver ten new models in less than two years. The all-new and completely redesigned Armada, along with the sassy, brand-new take on the subcompact Kicks, are already available, and from what we can see, the offerings are just going to keep getting better.
These updates come on the heels of Nissan’s announcement that both the Pathfinder SUV and Frontier pickup will receive comprehensive redesigns for the 2022 model year. In addition, Nissan has also recently redesigned the popular Rogue crossover. In fact, the company has pledged to update its entire lineup, which means all the latest safety and infotainment technology will be woven into every model.
Nissan fans are excited about the upcoming Nissan ARIYA all-electric crossover release. Billed as a minimalist design, the ARIYA is a futuristic and bold take on the popular crossover body style, with sleek integrated LED headlights and a lighted Nissan badge front and center on the grille. That minimalist design continues inside the ARIYA, with a roomy cabin, completely flat floor, and flush-mounted touchscreen tech that resembles a fighter jet cockpit.
The ARIYA is expected to deliver upwards of 380 horsepower and instant power accessibility in true EV fashion, as well as a special e-4ORCE All-Wheel Drive system that sends traction to the front or rear wheels to maximize handling and road grip. The driving range should be around 300 miles, keeping it in line with other EV offerings.
Part of Nissan’s evolution includes its Nissan Intelligent Mobility technology. In the race to a more connected world, this technology aims to create oneness between the vehicle, the road, and our smart devices. The goal is to create safer driving conditions and a more comfortable driving experience. The trio of Intelligent Driving, Intelligent Power, and Intelligent Integration work together for a wholly connected experience.
The team at Newton Nissan of Gallatin is standing by to help you select the car, truck, van, or SUV that perfectly matches your wish list. Do you want a brand new Nissan to show off as you travel through the city, or are you seeking a starter car for the new driver in your household? Maybe you prefer the peace of mind that comes from choosing a Certified Pre-Owned Nissan. Maybe your budget is a little tight, and you need to go with something used. Whatever you decide, you’ll find some great options right here on our lot.
What are some benefits of buying new? The best part of choosing a new vehicle is the comprehensive warranty that comes with your vehicle. Each new Nissan comes with a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain limited warranty and a 3-year/36,000-mile basic coverage warranty. These create a buffer of time where you won’t have to worry about any costly repairs if a part fails. In addition, many of our new Nissans are available to lease with aggressive programs and low monthly payments.
If you have your sights set on a used vehicle, we invite you to check out our extensive inventory of Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) Nissans. CPO Nissan vehicles are subjected to a rigorous inspection process and must meet specific criteria for age and mileage before they are considered for certification. All CPO vehicles receive thorough reconditioning and come with a 7-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
