A compact SUV is the perfect way to get the fantastic functionality and spaciousness of an SUV without choosing a larger model that can threaten to take over your life. Finding the right compact option is not always easy since there are a lot of them out there, but the 2022 Nissan Rogue makes it a lot simpler with fantastic performance, a great design, and amazing safety features. The Rogue received a major redesign last year, making it better than ever before, but not content to rest on their laurels, Nissan’s designers have improved the Rogue with a superior engine for the 2022 model year.
While only a single engine is still offered on the Nissan Rogue, for 2022, it has been replaced with a far superior option. This year, the Rogue features a 1.5L Variable Compression (VC) Turbo engine that delivers 201 hp and 24% greater torque than last year’s engine. This comes paired with Nissan’s impressive Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) to provide a smooth and responsive driving experience that is a lot of fun on the road. Perhaps best of all, not only is this engine more powerful, but it also gets superior fuel economy compared to last year, with up to 33 MPG combined city and highway gas mileage.
Inside the 2022 Nissan Rogue, you will find a spacious and comfortable interior that gives you seating for up to five passengers and more than 74 cu.ft. of total cargo volume. An 8-inch infotainment display is standard in the Rogue, with a 9-inch display available, and this is joined by an available 12.3-inch customizable digital gauge cluster and head-up display. Every 2022 Rogue also comes with Nissan’s Safety Shield 360 package of safety features, which includes automatic emergency braking and blind spot warning. Additional safety features such as a 360-degree Intelligent Around View monitor and traffic sign recognition are also available.

The engine might not be the first thing a lot of drivers think about when looking for a compact crossover model, but it should not be overlooked. We admit that it is easy to get focused on interior options and other features and completely ignore the performance of a model like this, but that is ultimately a mistake. So much of your driving experience comes from the engine and drivetrain – to not consider it can really leave you feeling some regret down the road.
While we certainly love the overall redesign and update that the Rogue received last year, the one thing we could criticize was the engine. For this model year, Nissan has kept its trend of offering a single engine, which makes getting the right vehicle easy, but they have greatly improved the engine in the 2022 Rogue. Last year, the Rogue had a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that offered 181 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque. For the 2022 model year, the Nissan Rogue now has a 1.5L VC-Turbo engine that delivers an impressive 201 hp and 225 lb-ft of torque.
You can see that this is a significant boost to real performance. Do not let the change to a smaller displacement fool you; it is better than ever. The VC-Turbo design that Nissan’s engineers have chosen greatly boosts power and acceleration to offer a more exhilarating time on the road. This comes paired with a CVT that delivers a very smooth driving experience, plus Nissan’s engineers have utilized a new engine-mounting system to reduce vibration from the engine for an incredible overall driving experience.
As if the boost to performance was not enough, this new engine also gives the 2022 Nissan Rogue superior fuel economy compared to last year’s model. The 2021 Rogue could get an estimated 27 MPG in the city, 35 MPG on the highway, and 30 MPG combined fuel economy. With the upgrades they have made, the Nissan Rogue can now get an estimated 30 MPG in the city, 37 MPG on the highway, and 33 MPG combined fuel efficiency. That is a significant improvement that can save you quite a lot of money over several years.
Since most of the time you share with your vehicle will be spent with you inside of it while driving, it is always important to look at the interior of any model you are interested in. With its redesign last year, the 2022 Nissan Rogue continues to be one of the most advanced and impressive compact SUVs on the road. You get a spacious interior that is perfect for loading up with your family and everything you need to take with you for a fun day, weekend, or even longer away from home.
You get seating for up to five passengers inside the 2022 Nissan Rogue, with a second-row bench seat and more than 100 cu.ft. of total interior passenger volume for people to spread out in. This includes more than 43 inches of front-seat legroom and more than 38 inches of available rear legroom for people to enjoy. Behind the rear seats, you get more than 36 cu.ft. of cargo space to pile stuff into; with the rear seats down, this increases to more than 74 cu.ft. of total cargo volume inside the Nissan Rogue. This goes down just slightly if you choose a model with the available dual-pane panoramic moonroof, but that is a small price to pay for the gorgeous view it offers.
The features you get inside the 2022 Nissan Rogue will depend on the trim you choose, but standard features include an 8-inch infotainment display, speed-sensitive volume control, and air conditioning. A six-way manual driver’s seat is standard, along with cloth seating and an integrated key with remote keyless entry. Altogether, the standard options are great, but you can really take things further with a higher trim.
If you choose the top Platinum trim, for example, then you get a 9-inch infotainment display with navigation, a 12.3-inch customizable fully digital gauge cluster, plus a head-up display, wireless charging pad, and a Bose premium audio system. The Platinum also features an 8-way power driver’s seat with memory settings, leather-appointed seating with heated front and rear seats, and a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel. Tri-zone automatic temperature control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and interior accent lighting are also included on the Platinum trim.
If you look at absolutely nothing else while shopping for a vehicle, then at the bare minimum, you should always consider the safety features of your next SUV. Nothing else matters if a vehicle cannot help keep you and your loved ones safe on the road. Fortunately, the 2022 Nissan Rogue is among the safest models out there, thanks in large part to the Safety Shield 360 package of safety systems that comes standard on every model.
This includes automatic emergency braking, which can automatically engage the brakes or assist you when you hit the brakes to avoid a collision, with pedestrian and cyclist detection to help watch for pedestrians and cyclists on the road. You also get rear automatic braking, which engages while you are backing up, with rear cross traffic alert to warn you when someone is passing behind you while you are in reverse. The Nissan Rogue comes with a blind spot warning to alert you when someone is in your vehicle’s blind spot, plus a lane departure warning to alert you when you are starting to drift without signaling that you are changing lanes, and high beam assist that automatically deactivates the high beams when oncoming traffic is detected.
There are also a number of additional safety features and systems available, such as Intelligent lane intervention, which can tap the breaks gently if you are drifting out of your lane, and Intelligent blind spot intervention that can similarly apply the brakes if you are trying to change lanes when a vehicle is detected in your blind spot. An available Intelligent Around View monitor creates a virtual 360-degree view around your vehicle to help show you objects you cannot see through the mirrors, while an available ProPilot Assist system can help you stay in your lane and adjust your speed to traffic to make daily driving less demanding.
