Newton Nissan Gives: Gallatin Shalom Zone

Newton Nissan is committed to the community that surrounds it. From work with Mustard Seed Communities to giving oil changes to local fundraising auctions, we are always looking for ways to give back. One of the organizations that reached out to us last year for sponsorship opportunities was Gallatin Shalom Zone. This wonderful organization, right here in Gallatin, is dedicated to improving our community by engaging Sumner County residents “in the work of healing, peace, reconciliation, justice, and love.”

Towards this end, Gallatin Shalom Zone has transformed a former high school (Union High School), into the Union High Resource Center. This centralized location serves our community as a meeting place for individuals as well as organizations to foster positive and healthy community development. Through programs such as ESL, after school tutoring, camps, and more, the center promotes a safe, healthy, and happy environment for kids and adults alike. In time, their goals are to see more children graduate high school and for our families to grow stronger.

This year, Newton Nissan joined their mission in sponsoring their 8th Annual Tribute Dinner, which seeks to honor with awards members in our community who are making a difference. Three awards are given at this dinner: The Heritage Award, The Leimentoll/Martin Humanitarian Award, and The Hal Hooper Philanthropy Award.

The Heritage Award will be presented to First Baptist Winchester. This award is given to a group or organization who are involved in the community in the spirit of the Shalom; First Baptist will receive this award for long-term, outstanding, and dedicated involvement in the community.

The Leimentoll/Martin Humanitarian Award will be presented to Bill Puryear. This award recognizes character, strength, and unwavering integrity and compassion. Bill will receive this award for his steadfast involvement in many schools, organizations, churches, and individuals’ lives.

The Hal Hooper Philanthropy Award will be presented to R.C.O. Holding Company/R.C. Owen III. This award showcases those whose donations have improved the community with sustainable change. R.C.O. Holding Company/R.C. Owen III receives this award for years of support given to the community by the company and past president.
