What’s New?

For the Toyota Rav-4, the only design update from last year’s model is some color changes, including an available two-tone paint scheme (as Nissan has also introduced in recent years). However, Toyota has added two new hybrid models, both a plug-in and plugless variant. The Rav4 Prime (plug-in) has a combined rating of 302 horsepower, 83 horses quicker than the plugless hybrid.

The 2021 Nissan Rogue has been completely redesigned for this model year, including a new exterior structure & design, amazing interior technology, and better performance & handling. The 2021 Rogue joins the lineup of Nissan vehicles with Safety Shield 360, which includes six safety & assistance technologies. This new Rogue also includes a new engine, standard push button start, and a new, Platinum trim level.

Advantages & Disadvantages

The Toyota Rav4 has the automatic advantage over the Rogue by featuring two different hybrid models, which the Rogue does not offer. The Rav4 also has the TRD Off-Road trim, which has impressive abilities, such as Dynamic Torque Vectoring All-Wheel Drive. While you could take your Rogue off-roading, the Rav4 Off-Road trim was specifically designed for it.

In contrast, the Rogue offers a whole host of advantageous features that are not available, or not standard, for the Rav4.

• Active Ride Control (not available) — this feature applies brake pressure to cancel out bounce motion for a smoother and more comfortable ride
• Tri-Zone Climate Control (vs. dual zone) — sets the temperatures separately for the driver, front passenger, and rear passengers
• Advanced Safety Features such as:
• Standard Blind Spot Warning (vs. available)
• Available Intelligent Blind Spot Intervention (not available)
• Standard Rear Automatic Braking (vs. available)
• Standard Rear Cross Traffic Alert (vs. available)

The Rogue stands out, particularly with safety features, being not only available–as the Rav4 offers–but also standard on all trim levels, so that no Rogue owner is missing out on these important technologies, which help keep drivers and passengers safe on the road.

Matchups

Where are these two models head-to-head against each other in trim levels & pricing?

The Rav4 has a few more trim levels than the Rogue, but they each have:

• S / LE
• SV / XLE
• SL / XLE Premium
• Premium / Limited
• In addition, the Rav4 has the two hybrid models and the Adventure & TRD Off-Road models. FWD and AWD are offered on all trims for each vehicle (excluding hybrids).

The Nissan Rogue is slightly more expensive than the base price for the Rav4; however, that price for the Rogue automatically includes many more features, such as the Safety Shield 360 and the Tri-Zone Climate Control.

On the interior, the Rogue also beats the Rav4 in the matchup for interior comfort, featuring more front head room, more front legroom, and more maximum available cargo capacity with the rear seats folded down.
